Hello and welcome to Urbanscot. Urbanscot is an organisation dedicated to
developing and promoting urban music and talent in Scotland. We aim to act as a
platform for Scottish artists helping to bridge the gap between Scotland’s
vibrant underground scene and the mainstream music culture. Our goal is to
showcase Scotland’s talent to the world and develop a voice to represent our
diverse cultures, putting Urban Scots on the map!
Urban music comes under a wide spectrum ranging through, Hip Hop, Rap, R’n’B,
Dancehall, Reggae, Jazz, Soul, Gospel and African. One of the beautiful things
about Scotland’s urban culture is that it has developed from all of these
influences, yet is truly unique due to our artists drawing inspiration from
Scotland’s surroundings. However the wealth of our talent is not confined to
music as Scotland is producing more, producers, artists, writers, poets, dancers
and actors on the urban scene every day.
Scotland is famous for producing some of the hottest bands on the planet like
Travis, Franz Ferdinand, Snow Patrol, Mogwai and Idlewild. Of course let’s not
forget The Proclaimers, Aztec Camera, and The Bay City Rollers! However Scotland
is yet to produce a successful urban act. This is not due to a lack of talent;
rather, there is no established route for Scottish artists to break into the
mainstream. Urbanscot aims to combat this by providing support, advice and
development to artists thereby providing them with the tools and the contacts to
succeed, capacity build and hone their skills.
We believe the next big urban artist is coming from Scotland and Urbanscot will
be the organisation to deliver them to the world.
Our current projects are:
• “Urbanscot Online” www.urbanscot.com- a professionally designed and maintained
online directory and magazine, Incorporating Scottish Artist's profiles & demos,
music section, concert/event reviews, interviews, listings, galleries, forum,
competitions and more.
• "Urbanscot lounge" is our showcase event. Set in an intimate lounge
atmosphere, featuring Scotland’s finest unsigned artists, Urbanscot Lounge is an
evening guaranteed to sooth, move and groove you.
• “Urbanscot Development” A comprehensive training programme to develop Scottish
talent both in performance and Production. Plus forge industry contacts.
• “Urbanscot Management” - a division dedicated to providing a high quality
production, promotion and a talent agent service.• “Urbanscot Agency” – Scotland’s only agency for Urban Artists. We aim to
provide representation for Singers, Emcee’s, DJ’s, Producers, Dancers, Visual
Artist, Poets and writers – generally anyone who falls under the Diaspora of
urban.
FUTURE
• “Urbanscot Festival” - An annual all round urban festival, featuring
international and local acts. With the summer as its setting the festival will
be the first of its kind in Scotland.
• “Urbanscot Mix-CD” - mixed and complied by top Scottish DJ’s, the mix tape
will feature Scottish talent. Produced on our own label, the CD will be
distributed all over Scotland. Also used as a promo tool for Scottish urban
music.
• “Urbanscot Raw” – A seasonal hip hop session providing a forum for, Emcee’s,
DJ’s, Graffiti artists and dancers
• “Urbanscot Club Tour” - working with established artists, the club tour will
incorporate various clubs and cities over a weekend - showcasing the local
talent in each city alongside top DJ's and headliners.
